Edwards, part of the Atlas Copco Group, is building a new manufacturing facility in Genesee County, New York, USA for dry vacuum pumps used in the manufacture of semiconductors. Phase one will be a US$127 million project to construct a state-of-the-art 240 000 sq ft manufacturing facility.
Over the next seven years, the project is expected to reach US$319 million and create around 600 jobs. The factory is planned to be fully operational in late 2024 and will provide an addition in capacity to Edwards’ existing dry pump factories.
This new investment represents an increase in local production to support Edwards’ US customers and ensure the supply chain capacity needed in the semiconductor industry. It will also enable a significant reduction in the carbon emissions arising from international freight.
The new facility is planned to align with the LEED green building certification system and will be powered using 100% renewable energy sources.
