Energy Recovery Inc has secured contracts worth over US$7 million for its PX Pressure Exchanger (PX) energy recovery devices and pumps for a number of seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination projects in Spain. The US company will be supplying a range of PX models and pumps for these projects. Together, the desalination plants will deliver over 330,000 cubic meters of water daily for both irrigation and drinking to communities across the Iberian Peninsula.
One of the projects involves a major retrofit of an existing facility with Energy Recovery’s PX Q300 devices. This upgrade is expected to yield reliable energy and cost savings for the customer. The PX Pressure Exchanger can reduce energy consumption in desalination by up to 60% and boasts a 30-year design life, underscoring its long-term economic and environmental benefits. This project also reflects a growing trend to retrofit desalination plants with proven solutions like the PX Q300, as the demand for freshwater increases. Recent droughts in Spain have highlighted how climate change, combined with mass tourism and agricultural needs, can pose significant challenges for communities.
All orders are expected to be fulfilled in 2025.
