Andritz to acquire Flowserve’s NAF valve business

International technology group ANDRITZ has signed an agreement with Flowserve Corporation based in Texas, USA, to take over its NAF AB business.
NAF AB engineers, designs, and builds Flowserve’s NAF control valve portfolio. It is a leading supplier with long-standing experience in providing process control valves for pulp and paper and other related industries. With 50 employees at the facility in Linköping, Sweden, it has been a successful provider of process control valves for more than 100 years.
With this acquisition, ANDRITZ, a provider of process control and automation systems for complete pulp and paper mills, is adding control valves to its portfolio of process actuators, analyzers, and measurement equipment for the pulp and paper making process. For many years, ANDRITZ has successfully equipped its production plant and equipment deliveries with NAF control valves.
This acquisition will further complement ANDRITZ’s capabilities to provide instrumentation, advanced process controls, as well as online process simulation, and digital twins through its IDEAS digitalization platform, all from a single source. In addition, the NAF control valves will be seamlessly integrated into ANDRITZ’s Metris Asset Management suite, which provides automated monitoring of control valves to maximize plant uptime and process stability.

Valland valves completed  WALCHY project

Italian valve manufacturer Valland announced to have successfully completed the WALCHY project, undertaken as part of the second open call by DIH World. This iniziative is designed to support digitization experiments involving Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector.
The aim pursued by WALCHY is of utmost significance: to revolutionize the supply chain in the hydrogen industry towards a more efficient logistical process in terms of cost and time, while also ensuring sustainability. This is achieved through innovation in valve components using Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology.

The first CSP plant in Brazil operates with KLINGER

A new chance for KLINGER Brazil to contribute to a green energy project recently came about in Rosana, São Paulo, where Eudora Energia just completed the nation’s first heliothermal power plant. Heliothermal energy, also known as concentrated solar power or CSP converts solar energy into heat through the use of parabolic mirrors and thermal fluid.
The sunrays are reflected and concentrated by the mirrors into a single point, which heats the thermal fluid and produces steam via heat exchange. This steam drives turbines, which run a generator and produce electricity.
When Eudora was designing the plant project, the team researched the valve market to learn their options for fluid control. Once the exact specifications were finalized, they realized the choices were limited: few companies were capable of producing valves that met the stringent requirements necessary for controlling thermal fluid with the precision needed for the project. Their search led them to KLINGER, who had a proven history with the medium.
After conferring in detail with Lucas Hipolito, Project Analyst at KLINGER Brazil, Eudora decided on KVN piston globe valves, which feature class VI sealing per ANSI/FCI standards, guaranteeing a high level of water tightness and reliability. The high durability of the valves leads to less frequent servicing and fewer replacement parts.

Orbinox valves for a more sustainable future

ORBINOX has supplied around (100x) knife gate valves to Renewcell, a company with the mission to make fashion circular. Renewcell has developed a new material called CIRCULOSE®, a Next Generation raw material derived from the recovery of cellulose found in worn-out clothing and transformed into a dissolving pulp made from 100% recycled textiles. The pulp serves as the foundation for various types of regenerated fibers, including viscose, lyocell, modal, acetate, and other man-made cellulosic fibers.
The production process of CIRCULOSE entails certain similarities with Pulp & Paper production processes. ORBINOX has once again shown its capabilities to adapt the knife gate valves mainly used in Pulp & Paper applications to this new sustainable textile process.

MRC Global  valves for Swedish  biofuel refinery project

MRC Global Inc. has announced that it served as a key valve supplier for the Preem Lysekil Refinery biofuel project, located in Lysekil, Sweden.
This project will make the Lysekil Refinery the largest producer of renewable fuels in Scandinavia and aid Preem in its goal of creating a more sustainable future.
Preem, working with Wood, one of the world’s leading consulting and engineering companies, collaborated to modify the Synsat unit at Preem’s Lysekil Refinery. This unit will produce clean renewable diesel based on various renewable feedstocks, including rapeseed oil.
MRC Global supplied over 2,200 valves, including gate, globe, and check valves, ½” through 24”, in various alloys, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome molybdenum, and other high alloys within a compressed timeline meeting a critical deadline.

PetrolValves completes major overhaul project

PetrolValves’ Services Team smoothly handled a major overhaul on the beautiful island of Oøy, in the municipality of Øygarden, Norway. The high complexity of the job and difficult valve accessibility required several tasks which were completed successfully, by means of specific equipment to allow valve disassembly and local reassembly.
During the 2023 planned shutdown, PetrolValves performed the replacement of a Valve Trim at the site of a 30” 600 Through Conduit Slab Gate valve with a hydraulic actuator.

Marotta Controls to provide valves for NASA

Marotta Controls, a rapidly growing aerospace and defense supplier with a 65-year-plus heritage in spaceflight, has been selected by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to supply two types of valves on the Sample Retrieval Lander (SRL), a key element of NASA’s Mars Sample Return program. The SRL will carry the Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV), a rocket charged with launching samples off the surface of Mars for return to Earth for study.
The NASA SRL will utilize two different components from Marotta. The first is a customized valve based on the MV130HLT, a heritage design from Marotta’s CoRe® Flow Control series. This valve will pressurize the liquid propellant tanks, starting the SRL’s engines. The second Marotta valve, the SPV795, is brand new and designed specifically to shut off the SRL’s descent engines to facilitate a safe landing; this is to accommodate the very thin atmosphere on Mars (which is less than 1% as dense as that of Earth). Both valves have been optimized to reduce the risk of sample contamination and safeguard the integrity of each vial’s contents.

TSG completes 1.4 MGD  desalination project in  Mexico

TSG Water Resources, a specialist in water and wastewater treatment facilities for the hospitality industry in Mexico and the Caribbean, has installed a 1.4 million gallon per day (5,400 m3/d) high-recovery seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) system in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  The project is the culmination of a long-term collaboration with FEDCO, to deploy FEDCO’s BiTurbo desalination technology.
The facility, which uses two FEDCO HPB turbochargers and an 11-stage centrifugal high-pressure pump which operates at 80%+ efficiency, will provide water for the area’s tourism industry without impacting local freshwater resources.
The facility in Los Cabos is the latest BiTurbo unit installed globally. In total over 15,000 m3/d of desalination capacity is currently in operation using the BiTurbo technology. Five more facilities are expected to come online later this year, bringing the total to 12 facilities with a combined capacity of 27,000 m3/d.
