PJV awarded $11m contracts in Brazil
PJ Valves (PJV), the manufacturer and supplier of valves for the global energy industry, has been awarded two significant FPSO valve contracts for projects in Brazil – one of which is planned to be one of the largest oil-producing units in the world. The company will manufacture and supply valve packages to both projects in the Santos and Campos basins.
The FPSO, destined for the Buzios field, is set to be the largest oil-producing unit operating offshore Brazil and one of the largest in the world, with a daily processing capacity of 225,000b of oil and 12M m3 of gas. PJV will supply low to high-pressure valves which cover multiple topside applications from water services to oil and gas. These will be installed within the vessel’s topsides from next year ahead of the planned delivery of the FPSO in the second half of 2024.
The second major order is for the Mero 3 FPSO project which is expected to have a processing capacity of 180,000 b/d of oil and 12 MMcm/d of gas, with production planned for 2024. PJV will deliver a range of shutdown, ball, globe, and check valves supplied in carbon stainless-steel, super duplex, and nickel aluminium bronze material. The valves will vary in size, with the maximum being 14 inches in diameter and pressure class being 10,000 psi, to support the topside processing requirements of the vessel.
Hubli valve industry has global reach
Karnataka’s Hubli known as ‘Chota Mumbai’ currently has over 200 valves and valve accessories (pumps, actuators, instruments, products, and other services meant for the valve industry) manufacturers that employ over 20,000 people and clock an annual turnover of over Rs 1,000 crore with exports accounting for over 50% of that. This is a key hub for all kinds of valves and related accessories and started contributing significantly to domestic and exports markets. These firms comprise micro, small, medium enterprises and also MNC players such as Trillium Floor Technologies and Flowserve Corporation.
resident of Hubli Valve Manufacturers’ Association Shivanand Awati informed that the Indian valves market was currently in an interesting phase since major global players had shifted their focus to India, considering the upbeat investment scenario and slow-down in West Asia the Middle East and Europe.
Axial valve is included in the 25th edition of API 6D
API has published a new revision of API 6D: “Specification for Valves”. Axial valves are included in the scope of the 25th edition of API 6D.
Besides the axial check valves which were included with the publication of the API 6D 23rd edition in 2008, the inclusion of axial valves into the new specification is a result of the effort of the voting members.
This milestone confirms the Mokveld quality and the recognition of the reliability of axial valves by the international standardization organization API. The inclusion of the axial valves in the API 6D facilitates the customers to specify axial flow valves for their applications.
Where the axial valve already was included in the API 6DSS (subsea), now the revised 25th edition of API 6D will soon make it possible to monogram the valves in full accordance with all requirements from API 6D.

Rotork electro-hydraulic actuators in Malaysian rail system
More than 50 Rotork electro-hydraulic RCE actuators have been installed for an ongoing enhancement to the Malaysian rail network infrastructure.
The Klang Valley Integrated Transit System serves the areas of Klang Valley and Greater Kuala Lumpur. There are two commuter rail lines within the metropolitan area, five subway lines, one busway line, and, finally, two airport lines that connect to Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.
The actuators have been installed on fire dampers throughout the rail network. These are not visible to commuters, but control vents up to four or five metres wide which open in the event of a fire to prevent smoke from filling the tunnels and posing a threat to the lives of those inside.
Rotork electro-hydraulic RCE range of actuators have a torque range of 50 to 5,000 Nm (442 lbf.in to 44,248 lbf.in.) and are ideal for on/off and positioning, producing high output torques in relation to size.
Singapore desalination plant relies on AUMA actuators
AUMA supplied more than 150 electric actuators to Singapore’s new Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant (KMEDP). The plant was selected as ‘Desalination Plant of the year’ at the Global Water Awards 2021.
KMEDP is Singapore’s first large-scale, dual-mode desalination plant, designed to treat both seawater and rainwater . KMEDP gives Singapore an important weather-independent water supply. The award-winning plant uses state-of-the-art technologies to increase its energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impact.
A total of 156 AUMA SA multi-turn and SQ part-turn actuators with intelligent AC 01.2 actuator controls are installed throughout the different treatment steps of the desalination plant.
At the design stage, PUB, Singapore’s national water authority, was concerned that a large number of actuators would be installed in hard-to-access areas. AUMA, who had already cooperated with PUB on numerous projects in the past, put forward the benefits of its actuators’ modular design.
WTP in Texas ordered Rotork’s K-TORK actuators
A water treatment plant in Texas, USA has ordered hundreds of Rotork’s K-TORK rotary vane actuators for its ultrafiltration system.
San Felipe Springs Water Treatment Plant is based in the City of Del Rio, Texas. It is supplied by water from the nearby East and West San Felipe Springs and uses an ultrafiltration system to process the water.
Nearly 400 K-TORK rotary vane actuators were ordered for the San Felipe Springs Water Treatment Plant to aid in the ultrafiltration process. These highly accurate and reliable units are to replace existing actuators to ensure reduced maintenance and replacement costs. They are ideal for critical applications of this kind because of their high cycle and precise modulating output. They do not need to convert linear motion to rotary motion, which means they offer true rotary control.
